Mentor Code of Conduct
It is my primary responsibility to provide the best possible service to you, the client, and to act in a way that causes no harm. I will respect your dignity, autonomy, and personal responsibility.
As your mentor, I will:
Conduct myself in a way that promotes diversity and equal opportunities, and treat you with respect.
Ask questions in several ways, and if you find any question over-challenging, I welcome your feedback so I can achieve the right balance of challenge and support for you.
Be aware of the potential for conflicts of interest to arise through the mentoring relationship, telling you as soon as possible and dealing with it quickly to ensure there is no detriment to you.
Not refer to any knowledge I have about other individuals, gained from my mentoring interactions with them unless they have agreed to such disclosure. If I am working with them, I will not refer to the knowledge I have gained from my interactions with you without your agreement.
Ensure that my level of experience and knowledge is sufficient to meet your needs.
Ensure my capability is sufficient to enable me to operate according to this Code of Conduct and any standards that may subsequently be produced.
Develop and enhance my level of competence by participating in relevant training and appropriate Continuing Professional Development activities.
Maintain a relationship with a suitably qualified peer/supervisor, who will regularly assess my competence and support my development.
Not exploit you in any manner, including, but not limited to, financial, relational, sexual or those matters within the professional relationship.
Ensure that my professional competence, qualifications and accreditation are clearly and accurately explained and that no false or misleading claims are made or implied.
Not engage in paid-for services without the relevant professional insurance.
Never represent the work and views of others as my own.
Understand that my professional responsibilities continue beyond the termination of any mentoring relationship.
At all times represent mentoring in a way which reflects positively on the profession.
